Conventions of a News Package

Conventions of a News Package

Defintions
Field Reporters
A field reporter is a reporter who reports at a scene of an event or a situation is taking place. They will present themselves professionally and smart which is common but depending on the situation of the report they would have to dress to that occasion. Sometimes depending on the report of where they could be they would dress to that occasion and embed themselves to the story. Most field reporters are mainly male gender and in suits which is common, but in a news report when on the field they would have more authority.
Links to Studio
Links to the studio is where something is pre-recorded or live reports which goes out to the audience at home. The location to show how they are in the studio is by what the audience see in the background, for instants you can see the reports sitting on a chair with a large desk and the studio behind them. The different camera language shows how each shot is come across towards the audience.
Mode of Address to Viewer
Mode of address to the viewers is how the reporters speak to the audience when reporting for instants how they use the tone of voice to mean something or how they could communicate to the audience. Its also where they could be from the accent they can give away which is very rare. Plus how hard they use some words to the reporters own experties. The facts providers and the analysing experts are two different information which is either given to you or the reporter is either a expert at a particular area.

Interviewing Experts and Witnesses
Interviewing experts and witnesses for the camera techniques is what kind of shot they use to present how the interview could lead to and how it will come across. The location is how it links to the story and where it is to help pro trey this to the audience. The status of the interviewee is how they are involved with the story. The graphic is how they are relevant to the story, also including the question that are been asked which is another way of giving vital information to the audience by a expert or a normal news reporter facts. The expert knowledgeable or part of the story is where they are directly comes from the story or by someone being in that area which can relate to the story and to help with the report. The witnesses can be random people on the street that have seen something from an event or something that is related to a story will be interviewed through vox pops.
Report Structure
The report structure for sign in and context is when the report or field reporter introduce themselves and give a quick short dialog of what they will talk about in the news. Archive footage is footage that news editors use to add old footage to help make the news reports more realistic and professional, the interviews and vox pops helps the reports become real and serious by the way it is used. Fact communications are how basically how they get the factual information across to the audience. The pieces to camera is when basically how many times the does the reporter look at the camera so they can give the effect of the reporter is could be talking straight at the audience watching at home. The sign out is when the reporter finishes his or her bit and then finishes off with her name and sends it back to the studio even when pre recorded or live. The outside broadcast is when a reporters is on location at a event happening that is matched to the story they are reporting. The cutaways and noddies are mainly to help the audience be more engaged by them seeing the reports facial expression of them nodding at the same time to so interest, with the cutaway also at the same time to add in that effect.

Actuality footage
The source is where the footage has come from which makes it more engaging and real for the audience to see. The reasons for usage is by how people who where at a time and place, helps the atmosphere add to the event told in a interview. The amount of footage that could be used is all depended on what the situation is, you can use footage that someone who was at the event and just have that running throughout the whole news report. Plus using actual footage helps get the audience engaged and show how real the event actually is.

Conventions Examples

The field reporter here is not shown a lot but when you do see the reporter oyu can see that he is wear a suit to look professional to help the show the authority that he has and also because of the location of the event the ethnicity of the reporter is a asian indian male round about his near late 20s. For example between 1:11 to 1:15 you can see that the reporter is a asian male, this indicates to some of the audience that didnt know about the Mumbai terroist attacks can easliy identify what country it happened by the background of the culture and ethnicity of the reporter. At 0:05 to 0:09 you can see the graphics of the reports name which helps the audience see who is reporting this story to them, it helps them again to identify where or what the story is about.

Here for links to the studio, they have the presenter who either is talking to someone live at an event which is the field reporter, or have someone that is linked to the event or story that will be interviewed at the studio. The clip above shows the presenter and the interviewee talking about the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Between 0:36 to 1:03 you can see that the present first talks about the attacks and then introduces the interviewee and who he is plus telling the audience what he does which is linked to the attacks, the audience see that the interviewee is actually important and this helps the audience want to know what the interview has to say and what he thinks of the Mumbai attacks. The camera techniques are not very interesting in terms of the shots from changing to the presenter to the interviewee but the interviewee has spoken throughout the whole 58 seconds which is why the shot has not changed to the presenter. For example 1:00 to 1:58 you can see that the shots have only changed twice but the second that they only had was the presenter and he interviewee this is because the audience can see what the presenter is asking and how the interviewee is listen and seeing how they would answer.

Mode of address to viewers is all about how the reporter is talking to the audience like there tone of voice and the accent when talking. Throughout the whole report you can hear the accent of the reporter when he speaks as a narrator and on the camera when been filmed. This is because of the country that the report is doing the story on is in India Mumbai. The news reporter a tone of voice which goes up and down but this is because of his accent, the accent makes the reporter talk in a flow of going up and down. Like for example here between 0:16 to 0:19 you can hear the reporter starts off with his tone of voice high then goes down low but quick with a flow. Then from 0:19 to 0::27 you can hear when the reporter says hotel he pronounces it with a Indian accent which makes some of the word quite quick to say.

Interviewing experts and witnesses is about how an interview is viewed and seen towards the audience. Here with the location, it should link to the story and show what has happened or happening. For example here between 0:00 to 0:18 you can see the hotel in Mumbai that had been attacked by the terrorists, scene like this help the audience see that it is real and not fake at all by the evidence of the scene when it been reported on the news. 0:05 to 0:09 here you can see the graphic of the reporter but you can also see that under the name of the reporter the location of where the attack happened which is Mumbai is shown in the graphic to the audience again where the events happened.

The report structure shows the audience how the information from the news is shown to them and how it is come across to them. In the clip above about the security in India’s hotels which is in mainly Mumbai where the terrorist attacks happened, the news reporter gives mainly facts about the Mumbai attacks and how its effected the country so far. Between 0:00 to 0:12 you see scene from the attack that happened on one of Mumbai’s best hotels in the country and area, and the same time you can hear the reporter in the back talking as a narrator talking about when the attacks happened. The reporter also shows up eventually on the report when he is talking about the security of the hotels in India. For example 1:25 to 1:48 you can see the reporter walking down a corridor in one of Mumbai’s hotels explain more to the audience what else has changed and improved for the safety of the tourist that visits the beautiful country of India.

The actuality footage shows the audience what has happened through footage at the event that was there that saw it happen at the time. The reason for using the footage is to help the audience keep updated with what’s happening around the world. Between 0:00 to 0:17 you see actual scene and footage that has been filmed to show the audience what the damage has been done and by this, this will convince and make the audience believe that the attacks are true and it’s not made up by the news or the media in general. The amount used in the report about security of hotels, is very little and there is not much footage of the event. This is because, the footage used is meant to just remind the audience what had happened and what has changed now which the reporter talks about.
