Production log 6

This week I have been editing and also been trying to get all my footage done of myself which I have done so i can focus everything on finishing my editing. I struggled with using live type as I have forgotten to use but my friend and class mate Gareth fisher helped me and reminded me how to use the software which made everything more easier and much better to use. As I came close to finishing my documentary, I saw that the documentary would only be 4:30 long instead of the target which is 5 minutes minimum. I had come up with a idea of putting up a fact just too make it 5 minutes long which I managed to do in the end. I also had to change all my transitions to the same one which made the documentary look good due to the the different type of transition throughout.

This week I have been focusing on editing my documentary due to the deadline next friday which is an extension from next wednesday to friday, which a relief as I have time to film myself and cutaways that I have left to do to finish my documentary. When I was filming myself I struggled to focus on speaking clearly due to my illness that I caught for a few days but everything overall came out nicely. I had also re-interviewed my friend Rohini who is a lifeguard at Virgin Active, this is because of the shot type I had used was not good and also my teacher had told me to cut myself off in the interview as it would make my audience focus on the interviewees in my documentary more as in if I was in the documentary it wouldn't.

Next week will be my final week to complete my documentary and on my blog plus youtube. I will try to finish editing my documentary so my teacher can tell me anything I need to re-film or edit out or put in.

This week I had finally got my interview with my cousin who is a nutritionist, which I know can help me get a good grade with the type of expert content shown on my documentary. Besides that I did not get a reply from the seven kings heath centre which basically I wanted to get a interview with my doctor. Overall this week I have focused on editing my documentary which was the main thing for that week as my teacher Mr Philipson will have a edit check and see my progress on my documentary. I got back some good feedback on my documentary which was fantastic, and I also got some good advice on how I could make my documentary more better compared to what it is now.

Next week I will be focusing on doing more editing and also finish off with getting all my footage of myself and plus cut aways to make the documentary more interesting.

This week I was planning to interview my cousin and a doctor but both was unavailable to see me which was a down side of the whole week, but I have tried to contact other health centre with doctors that could see me for an interview. I had left massagers or voice mails just telling them what I exactly need them for and why. I had also tried to organise another a date for me to interview my cousin. Beside that I have been filming myself on the bits which I will need to be in, to explain and talk other area we will be looking at.

Next week I will be editing and see if I can film myself to fill in any other pieces for myself to cover and hopefully I can get an interview with my cousin which would be brilliant to have on my documentary.

This week I have filmed and interviewed about four people about their own opinion on why young teenagers go gym? As I had filmed and interviewed the four people, I had already come up with a few theories on why young teenagers want to go gym. On top of that I had filmed myself talking quickly about diets, protein shakes and legal gym pills, and also the different factors with it.

I had filmed on three different days which gave me time to think about the questions and the way I will present myself to the interviewees and top the audience by camera. I had first filmed on a Wednesday which was the interviews with Niall and Tej who are both fitness lovers that go gym most of their free time. I had interviewed them in the fitness suite in my school Chadwell Heath Academy. I locations and setting in the background matched the theme and topic of the documentary. It was perfect for the interview to take place due to the gym equipment set in the background to remind the audience what kind of theme and topic I am talking about. The next day I had gone out to film and interview another two people which one of them is a lifeguard and the other a gym branch manager at Virgin Active. I interviewed the branch manager at the gym office and the other at her house. Both of them had a similar kind of answers but different in their own way.

Next week I will be interviewing a doctor and my cousin who is a nutritionist which should my documentary different side to be looked at.

This week I have been working on my production paper work and completed it. This week I have also went with Gareth to a Match Mothers meeting in slough, in Burnham Bucks at a Mars factory which was a good experience but also sad. The meeting was about mothers without their children and that don’t have contact with their own children because of the Fathers of Justices program that is quite big and is shown quite a lot in the media. I went to go help Garth, by being the Camera man also help him become more confident when interview the mothers about the meeting and their experiences which they are going through now. We also had went to the meeting to get cutaways and listen to the people explaining the different factors the charity Match Mothers does and how it helps Mother be heard out to their children.

As I was there filming the interview, I was listening to what the mothers was saying in terms of how they was reacting to the questions and also how they told us openly. Some of the interview was emotional because there was one that had hit me the most about how a mother had come home from America and found out that the father and kids had moved out taking the furniture taken as well, which all the mother just had was an empty house.

The trips to slough and back was good because it didn’t take us to long to get there and back which was a plus side to the whole thing.

Next week I will be interviewing a lifeguard and a gym branch manager of Virgin Active in Ilford, I will also have to interview a two gym lovers which will be in the fitness suite (gym) at Chadwell Heath Academy. I have planned to film myself talking about protein shakes and legal gym pills and how teenager know about it when starting gym.

Final Proposal

Final Proposal

Aims

Aims in my documentary is that the point is to find out why do young teenagers start and go gym, which I will go to the some general public and some experts on there opinions on why they might think teenagers go to the gym. I would as well show how gym is good for your health but through the documentary topic of teenagers starting gym. I would like to aim to interview experts like doctors, nutritionist, personal instructor, fitness teachers and bodybuilders if all that is possible which I would like to have, by this it can help the audience understand some of the opinions or theories that they come up with. I would like the audience to see what kind of atmosphere the gym can be and how it can motivate young teenagers into going gym and becoming fit and healthy.

Content

In the content of the documentary, it will be interesting for the audience to watch and learn because it won't just be some boring old documentary that is just pure facts and statistics, it will have entertaining games and the documentary mode which helps us know how i would like to make the documentary come across. I'm going to try and have a wide variety of things that will be happening in the documentary which are competition games with a teenager that goes gym and a teenager that doesn't which I would like the audience to see how it is actually good and how it can make you fitter and stronger. I would also like to interview experts but with one particular expert which is a body builder, I would like to show how the bodybuilder trains which can show the audience in actual fact mainly the teenagers how this can motivate teenagers to start gym at a young age.

Target Audience

My target audience are aimed mainly towards young male teenagers which appeals to them because of the topic and subject of the documentary I am going to produce. The types of features and people I will have in the documentary are going to be very appealing to the male audience, this is because the type of people I will have in the documentary are mainly male plus I would like to have a male body builders just so it helps identify the audience more clearly. It helps us see how I have targeted a specific audience to show i have researched well into showing the main area of audience I have targeted.

Format

The mode of the documentary is going to be performative this is because of the way I will present my documentary to the audience by this, I want the audience to understand and learn what they take in from the documentary which is from the start to the end. The mode also helps the audience see how the presenter is involved in the documentary as much as everyone else who will be in the documentary, this helps the audience understand also how each person which includes experts and the general public have a roll which is to help the audience learn and take in what they see. The mode also helps me a lot because I want the audience to watch the documentary hopefully it helps there lifestyle improve by following some of the diets and exercises that i want to show in the documentary.

Genre

The documentary will be the genre, as it will have no competitions, games and features that doesn't make a documentary factual. There are also many different types of factual TV which I have to make sure as my documentary will have interviews with experts and vox pops with the general public. Overall the type of documentary I will produce is a factual documentary which the brief of the BBC has asked us to make.

Style

The style of the documentary will be different and interesting for the audience to watch, the camera work in terms of shots will be wide ranged but not too wide ranged just so its enough for the audience to be interested throughout the documentary. In the documentary I will have different type of locations just so for the audience will stay engaged into the documentary, plus for sound and graphic, I will have music that are quite well known so mainstream, which is music that is played on radio stations and Music shows that most people know or known of. The graphic will be interesting for the audience to watch this is because I want to have pictures of people who have transformed from being fat or skinny to being fit and healthy plus with a build toned body. This hopefully also helps the audience stay engaged and intereseted about what else gym can do to help young teenagers do and make them go into the right direction in life.

The shots types I will use will be long shots, mid shots and high & low shots, this is because with the long shot I want the audience to see the whole atmosphere of a gym plus also it will give a wider look of the different facilities gyms have for example the differences between David Lloyd Gym and Virgin Active Gym. Mid shot will help just give a closer look at something which could be weights, equipment that gym users use to train and etc. Plus I would use this shot type because of the facial expressions that experts do which might the audience understand what the expert might be talking and explaining. High and low shots will helps me a lot during the documentary because the documentary won't be kept serious, instead it will give a more entertaining and interesting side for the audience to watch that can keep the audience happy and engaged.

Analysing the Competition

Analysing the Competition

This program is called the 'Gymnastics Artistic Women Team  London 2012 Olympic Games' this show contains the Olympics game that was broadcast-ed on BBC Olympics 1. The date of the program was broadcast-ed at the 31/07/2012 which had a view streak of 796,000 viewers that was watching the Olympics games of the women playing the gymnastics artistic  women team during that week. The time slot of the program to be viewed was at 18:42.

The similarities between mine documentary idea and the program of the London 2012 Olympics games are not really the, the only aspects of the two shows are in common is that they are both sports related, and that the gymnasts show the audience that gym is used to keep health but its only without the audience knowing. The age range of athletes that are in the Olympics are roughly between 18 - 28 which kind of relates to the type of people and experts that I will have in my documentary idea and also my idea contains the different types of interviews and opinions about the sport or game between the two shows. I will beat the view figures by having more entertaining features like for example the games that might test strength or speed which will help the audience by interested in what the documentary is about and what its talking about.

This program is called ' Live Ford Super Sunday ' the shows topic is about the Manchester United playing against Chelsea which was on the 05/05/2013 also which is shown on sky sports 1. The viewing figures are 1,739,000 that was watching the Manchester United and Chelsea match which is a big game because of the two teams that are playing each are big and well known around the world.

The similarities between the two shows which is my documentary idea about young gym lovers and then the second show is about the big football match between the two big teams in the premier league, are not very similar but the only similar elements that are the same is the audience type that are watching the game. The age range for the audience that watch the Live Ford Super Sunday program is between 15 - 60+ which is a good thing because the age range for my documentary idea is between 14-17 which is also the BBC are asking me to target my audience around to. The only way I would try and beat the viewing figure for the program is that I would try and use different and more interesting facts about gym which could try and catch the audiences attention.
The program here is called the UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship which is show on ESPN and the date of the program when it comes on 05/03/2013. The viewing for this show is estimated at 20,000 view which isn't much.

The similarities between my documentary and the program UFC .. isn't very similar but the few things that are similar is that both of the program are sports or has some elements of fitness that is involved which allows the audience for UFC could be related to my documentary idea which is about young gym lover. Although that the age range for UFC is aimed to a wide range which is aged between 18 - 40+ this can still be acceptable and can be related to my documentary idea about fitness and gym. I think I would need to have to put in interesting clips and facts for the audience to be interested and engaged the same as they are with watching UFC. For me to beat the viewing figures I would need to have more creative idea about how it will be entertaining and also how gym plus fitness if good for you which I would like to send the message out to my audience and also the others.

My documentary idea has a good and effective topic which can motivate children and adults to go to the gym and also show them how it helps people there daily lifestyle which is important because of the impact it can have on life in general. For my documentary I would like to have my documentary to be shown during the Spring because I would like the audience to have an idea that they can can have healthy and good looking body. So I think that my documentary should be shown between end of February to the beginning of March. Plus the times slot I would like it to be between 6 to 7 which is a good time for young teenagers and adults to watch which also would be good because that time the audience would start to watch there TV which will help me get good viewing figures.

Secondary Research for final idea

Secondary Research for final idea

1. Why does gym help daily lifestyles?

Gym helps your daily lifestyle because it keeps you fit and health and improves certain systems within the human body, for example exercising helps you live a longer life, helps give you more energy so you last longer in any activities that you might be doing and makes your body look good which can also make you feel good about yourself. Gym is also a motivation that can help people feel good about themselves and also doesn't make you feel sluggish. It also keeps you going more because of the energy that you have when exercising.

Quote : Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Look no further than exercise. The health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. And the benefits of exercise are yours for the taking, regardless of your age, sex or physical ability. Need more convincing to exercise? Check out these seven ways exercise can improve your life.

2. Why do people go to the gym?

People go to the gym simply because they either love staying fit and healthy, do it fun to take up spare time, do it for competition wise and etc. It's ways for some people to let out there pain and anger that have build, which is a good thing because instead of causing violence, you can just let it all out on gym depending on what you want to do. For example you could work your cardio to where yourself out or release anger by doing weight training which is very benefional.

"Most people know that exercising is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle--helping to burn calories, reducing the risk of obesity and protecting the heart. There are many ways to exercise and many places to do it. You can exercise and be fit without incurring the expense of joining a gym, but exercising at a gym does provide benefits that you cannot get by working out at home."
3. What are the risks of joining a gym at a young age?

I've been going to the gym for around 5-6 months , 3 times a week for around 1.5 hours at a time, doing all your standard exercises bench pressing etc and i feel i'm well within my ability and haven't had any aches and pains aside from the normal after workout pains :)
I'm 6'2 and weigh around 80kg (13stone) if this is of any use, and imho i am still growing quite rapidly."

"Working out is an excellent way to relieve the anxiety and stress that everyone feels from time to time. Instead of downing a gallon of ice cream, or drinking your troubles away, head to the gym to clear your mind. If you have a friend that is a good listener, ask him to come along with you so you can have a chat while you workout."

"People go to the gym to keep their body fit and in a good health state. Exercise helps in burning calories and hence protecting the heart and also reducing the risk of obesity."

3. What are the risks of joining a gym at a young age?

The risk of joining a gym at a young age are that you could injure yourself if you not careful or not using the equipment properly. Young aged people can be more active but silly if there not careful about using the equipment properly, it can cost them a lot of money to pay back the gym. Young aged people can also try and be clever and try to workout how to use the equipment themselves if they don't know how to use the equipment. Young people have to be very careful in terms of people that they are surrounded by because the area that they are in can be dangerour for example if there is a gym in a bad area and there some people are known to have done crimes, there is a chance that the person can be kidnapped or rapped. So by this it can be dangerour for some young people who join a gym. Some of the other down sides to gym is they gym can affect your growth if you start at a young age but the good thing about gym is that there are many other ways of staying fit and health plus gaining mucles by the different workout that fitness instructors can teach and show.

"I've been told that lifting weights and doing weight training as part of an exercise program can be damaging to epiphyseal plates, having researched this on the internet i was wondering whether or not this is actually the case, i could find no evidence supporting this, but the information came from a reliable source to begin with, wondering if anyone might be able to help?

4. How does the society help influence young teenagers to go gym?

The society helps influences the young teenagers to go gym by people talking them into being healthy and fit which they try to make the teenagers image to look good and to have a good looking body. Gym intrustors also can help young teenagers by giving them the motivation and can challenage them to train and get fit at a certain date. Young teenager can also see other young people around the world who can be obese and are not attractive which is a way of young teenager to aim to be fit and help them be influenced in joining a gym and work out to be fit and health. Gym instructors also show and explain the benefits of being fit, they can get certain access to things like standing out and looking good with there fit and strong body.

"Physical fitness is maintained by a range of physical activities. Human factors and social influences are important in starting and maintaining such activities. Social environments can influence motivation and persistence, through pressures towards social conformity."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_influences_on_fitness_behavior

5. Is gym a way of helping people to release stress or anger?

Gym is a good way of letting anger and stress oput because for example young teenagers can start building up stress over eduation, work and family problem. Its also a way for young teenagers to get away from the stresses and pains that they might having going on. It also benefits young teenagers to not get any ideas about drinking and doing drugs to release stress and anger which is really good because gym doesn't just make you fit and healthy it make good on the right path and helps them to not mess up in the life as they grow up.

6. How does the research devoloped your documentary idea?

The research helps devolop my documentary idea because I have lots of things that I can explain and talk about, also i'm very interested and passionate about the documentary idea. There are a few things that i might have to research into which I think shouldn't be hard to get hold of, I would have to go to certain experts which I have access to that i can ask and get so when I do produce the documentary I will have all the information and research that I will need to explain and talk about in the documentary. The research and information that I get will help me be more detailed in terms of explaining properly about each subject with the topic more understanding for the audience to watch and take in.
